Toronto’s own Teenage Head played a show last night in dundas sqaure. from what I can tell the audience didn’t seem as rambunctious as they would have been back in the 80’s. you know, when they actually sold out shows to kids who only a day later would get sent home for sporting their band’s t-shirts. it’s not really a hard feat to accomplish when your slogan is “Fuck the rest, Head’s the best!”.
My dad loves to brag about the concerts he went to in his day, and he’s always made it abundantly clear that “that one Teenage Head show” was one of the best concerts he can remember. This seems like a pretty bold statement commin from a guy who’s seen The Who four times, or actually got to witness Randy Rhoadsor for that matter…shook Jerry Garcia’s hand! I should probablly just post a blog about his shananagans someday. I mean, who wouldn’t wanna hear about partying with the satan’s choice or pranking your boss into thinking hes been arrested for some rather risky photographs. Im getting way off track here.
Both my boss and my father have never wasted an opportunity to explain to me how ridiculous this band was back in their time, which is why I know some pretty crazy and somewhat embarassing info about these guys. Ive been told numerous times (in great detail) about how Frank Kerr the lead singer of Teenage Head wandered a little too close to the audience one night and wound up crowd surfing for the next few songs. Im sure (becuase if repeticious story telling) that he was sure to keep his distance from the walk out stage the rest of the night.
But if that wasnt embarassing enough this man had to share the stage each night with Steve Mohan, the bands bass player. Im not saying that bass players and singers dont get along (unless you happen to be motley crue) its juat that this peticular bass player like to go on stage wth a little keep-sake for good luck. Alex Lifeson of Rush has a ton of crap all over his amps, including simpsons and gumby dolls, Pavarotti of The Three Tenors keeps a bent nail in his pocket but Mr Steve Mohan keeps a picture on on his guitar’s headstock of a girl fellattig him. I dont peticularly like using that word but “blowing” just doesnt seem as nice.
despite all of this nonsense the audience seemed to really enjoy the performance. this is all going on a 1 2 3 4 5 second clip on city tv of course. Sloan looked like they had a great time playing the mod club as well, but I dont have any dirty details on those guys. great band though.
